SMS 2.0 talking to an encrypted SQL Server DB

I am trying to have SMS 2.0 communicate with a remote SQL 2000 Server that has encryption turned on. This DB is shared in our environment and encryption must be on.

During SMS install I cannot access this DB with encryption turned on, but as soon as it is turned off the installation goes as planned.

Any suggestions on this?

According to our research this can't be done. Microsoft Support was not helpful in this matter.
