I'm about to setup the computer systems at a new location.. and they've got a CAT5 ethernet jack in each wall and then in a closet, they have a panel (Superior Modular Products 12R) with its jacks wired to a jack in every room.
So first thought is to plug a cable from each computer into its corresponding jack and then plug from the jack panel in the closet to the router, and then from the router's "out" jack into the modem.
But the placement of the coax is not convenient for that..
Can I do this?
Computer 2 to In-Jack 2
Computer 3 to In-Jack 3
Computer 4 to In-Jack 4
Computer 5 to In-Jack 5
Now here's where it gets tricky..
Coax to modem, modem ethernet run to out-jack for router and then a line from router jack 1 to In-Jack 1. There will be two computers in that room, So I'll jack them into Router jacks 2 & 3.
The diagram would look something like this
Computers 2,3,4,5 go to their wall jacks which are wired to their correspond jacks on the 12R in the closet.
Computer 1 & 6 would be connected to two router jacks.. The router would then be connected to the modem via its out-jack and would be connected to the room jack via another one of its standard jacks.
At this point, would all 6 computers be able to get online? Certainly computers 1 & 6 would be able to, of course.
