Dell Power edge 6400 problems with Multiprocessors on OPEN SERVER 5.0.5.
I have the above system with Four Xeon Processors running Open server 5.0.5.
However, whenever I try to install the SCO Symmetrical Multiprocessing software for additional processors the system upon reboot it hangs!!!
On the Hardware inspection on reboot I get as far as: -
%Cd-rom
G hd_config.
The system just sits there and I have to do a COLD START use unix.old to remove the SCO Symmetrical Multiprocessing software and relink the kernel it boots correctly.
However, as the customer has purchased four processors and Licences he would like to use all of them.
I have tried installing the MP supplements as suggested in the DELL and SCO technical Articles.
In the following order:
INSTALL SCO 5.0.5 OS
INSTALL Symmetrical Multiprocessing
INSTALL Release Supp 505A
INSTALL SLS OSS497C.
But I still get the same problem each time.
I have experienced the same problem on other DELL SERVERS running XEON processors.
Has anyone got any ideas about the solution to the problem or have had the same experiences?
John
