smokey effect on shapermusic.com 1

It looks like a duplicated clip containing a radial gradient filled circle.

Fill a circle with a radial gradient in the 'color mixer' panel - set the gradient to go from white at one extreme to white at the other but with the 'alpha' setting of th second white all the way down to zero. This will give you a shape that fades out towards the edge.

Select the gradient and convert it to a movieclip. You can then use duplicateMovieClip or attachMovie to create multiple copies of the clip dynamically and use the _alpha property of each clip to fade them in and out in clusters which will approximate the cloud of smoke effect.

when I take a screen shot and zoom in on the smoke, it looks more like a very small smoky square bitmap image (movieclip)

I do see the gradient fill like you said, but only at the beginning of the animation, prior to the smoke.

It looks like there are two things at play:

1- a movieclip for the smoke that gets generated at random along a path that follows the logo's shape as it is unmasked.

2- a movie clip for the sparks tha does the same. (I think the sparks are just white vector squares).

So... how can I tell flash to randomly generate these movieclips along a path... any suggestions?

cheers,
jen :_)
