Hi guys , with 2 8600,s I am trying to implement a single SMLT to a 470 .
The IST is configured between passports and when I introduce just one leg of SMLT I get " Funnies " on some of my stacks that connect to one of the two passorts & need a reboot to the stack, as a result of pc,s dropping off network.

The SMLT 470 uplink ports I am trying to "tag" so carrying a management vlan & a server vlan.
Is this possible to have tagged ports on either leg of SMLT ?
the configs on nortel web site dont show any tagging.
Does anyone have any good working config examples for this simple set up ?
Thanks in anticipation

Here is what you need for a successful SMLT.

8600 configs:

1.) The SMLT must be configured in the MLT area...not under the port. The port config is for single port SMLT which will not work in this case.
2.) Spanning tree must be disabled on the SMLT ports.
3.) The port type must be set to trunk.
4.) The VLANs must be added to the SMLT...through the SMLT config. Do not add the ports through the VLAN config.
5.) The SMLT ID must match on both 8600's.

470 config:

1.) The 470 must be configured as a normal MLT and set to port type of trunk.
2.) The VLANs must be added to the MLT, not to the ports.
3.) Spanning tree must be enabled on both ports.

On both the default VLAN ID must match on all interlink ports.

Hi Jynxx,

I'm thinking you may be wrong on a couple of those steps on the 470 config:

470 config:

1.)The 470 must be configured as a normal MLT and set to port type of trunk.
2.)The VLANs must be added to the ports because you can't add there's no way to add them to the MLT.
3.)Spanning tree must be disabled on the port but enabled (Normal)on the MLT.

Let me know your thoughts..

Thanks guys I will try the above guides with a re-config.
BIG Thanks

A further question guys with no routing protocol on IST vlan , do we add the relevant vlans we need to pass thro the IST in the MLT area ?? presumably all vlans needing to communicate thro! IST must also be in ? given that we have no routing protocol on IST.
Any help much appreciated
Thanks
Mucka

Any VLANs that are spanned across the switches, such as with SMLT's, you need all of those VLANs on the IST as well, yes, added through the MLT area.
