is there a program like AIX's SMIT in Solaris?

You could try using admintool or the more sophisticated Adminsuite, but will need an X windows client to do so. HTH.

To add to what Ken said, there is nothing like AIX smit or HP sam on Sun solaris. Admintool allows you to manage users, printers, hosts and with the Solstice line of products (adminsuite , disksuite) you will able to also manage disks, but nothing close to all the things (just about everything) SMIT helps you with.

You are going to have to use man a lot more. Too bad I.T. is not cash business

many thanbks for the responses but how do i find these programs??

Matty, at Solaris 7, adminsuite is included as part of the Easy Access Server bundled with the distro media. You should be able to install it from there, always assuming the media is available, of course!
