I was reading an old thread 940-1511555 and found some good info. I am not clear on one important thing. This is my first time to set up a CAS on a Partner. I have all the software installed on the computer, internet access, I got the 355A cable, not homemade, a gender changer. From what I was reading, I am plugging into the 9 pin serial connection on the back of the PC with all those adapters?? Not the 25 pin connection?? Is that only for the printer?
I don't need a printer connected, Just the phone system talking to the software on the PC. If someone could please clarify. I am running out of excuses to my customer why I can't get this damn thing connected!
Today I had no gender changer, just the 355A and a null modem gender changer, which of course did not work. I will go back tomorrow with the 355A, 25pin serial gender changer, an ethernet patch cord. Will that be all I need?
Thanks.

Not familiar with the Tapit Nova product, but the SMDR output is pretty simple. Cat-5 patch cord from the SMDR jack to the 355 adapter, and whatever adapters you need to get to the serial port on your PC, which usually just means a step-down adapter from 25-pin (to mate with the 355 adapter) to 9-pin Male (to fit your PC's serial port, or USB to serial port adapter)

To confirm that you're getting SMDR, just launch Hyperterminal or equivalent, 1200-N-8-1/No flow control and see what comes across your screen, then move it over to your call accounting system.

So I do need to connect to the 9pin, not the 25pin. That's what I needed to know. Thanks. I will give that a try.

That worked like a charm, thanks. That is one hell of a contraption on the back of the PC with all those gender changers and adapters!!
