My company is going into another companies building. They want me to get Tapit to work on a Merlin Magix Rel 6.
Admin at other CO. Has no clue about the Merlin. I am able to peck my way through the WINSPM application. Is there a setting on the PBX to capture from the SMDR?

I found several sites on pin layout on the RJ-45 to serial adapter. I was able to get jibberish at one time when I changed the PBX type to Merlin Networked #1. I also stumbled on a site that says only a 355a adapter will work with the RJ-45. I know the truth is out there.

I believe the problem is my cable/adapter. Does anyone have a matrix for the pin layout for a Merlin? I tried to use the cable/adapter from the ADMIN port that was already being used. This did not work either.

As always thanks for you help in advance.

My advice would be to pony up the money and get a REAL 355A or 355AF adapter and all the cross connect hard ware to get it connected to a serial port on a PC.

However, since you said you were able to get something, perhaps your settings were off.

You can actually see SMDR data with Hyperterm, the settings are 1200 N 8 1.

Sometimes 2400 N 8 1 work, but, if you have it set wrong, it will not work, 'cause THERE IS NO HANDSHAKE FROM THE SMDR PORT on the Legend/Magix.

Thanks everyone like I said I am new to this switch. I was told it was a Magix with Rel 6. I would believe it is a Legend if you say Magix went only up to R4.

I requested an order for the 355a adapter. I do not want any blown serial ports on my server.

I tried the 3 different types of PBX in Tapit.
My choices are:
Avaya Merlin Legend/Magix/Partner -XP(I am using this type, but get jibberish)
Avaya Merlin Legend/Magix Networked #1 -NXP
Avaya Merlin Legend/Magix Networked #2 -NXP
There is a choice for ATT Merlin Legend/Magix/Partner, however Tapit will not allow me to keep that setting?

Com port setting-9600 None, 8, 1 (reduced to 1200 no change)

My director is at the site today, and I am having him verify the release. I saw a post to check release.
Press intercom *05. See if that gives me more info.

I am working with a Legend 7.0 Version 12.0.

Is that just for the Merlin? I have two other switches and 9600 is the baud for both. They are Norstar MICS.
SMDR monitor works great.

Yes, that is a Merlin Legend and Magix standard.

Sometimes, if you have problems at 2400, you have to drop down to 1200.

ANd PLEASE, do not compare the Merlin Legend and Magix to NORSTAR anything.

Merlinman, thanks!

I hear you about the comparison. I was told by the vendor they would be the same settings. That is why I brought the comparison up.
I wont know until the 2nd week in Dec if I can get that thing to give me my data. I will post what happens when it does.

You will probably want to set your MINIMUM call length to ZERO and if it's not already, set it to do both in & out calls.
