I'm working with a customer that wants to be able to track calls inexpensivly (of course). I mentioned SMDR. I was thinking of connecting an old laptop to the SMDR port and running hyperterminal or procomm. Any suggestions or better solutions?
That's about as cheap as it gets. You can then import the resulting text file into Excel or similar program to sort, assign costs and other Call Accounting functions. Honest-to-goodness, that's all that call tracking is about. Some programs make it look fancy for the suits, but what you collect from the serial port is all the reality that there is.
