Using a db9 adapter I built from specs and a com port to hyper terminal, all I get is the report header but no call record data. so I think my connection must be good, but do I have to turn call record output on somehow?

Let's just say there are ways to turn it off....

If you are getting the header, that means you are at least talking to the port.

With SPM, Under OPTIONS, SMDR you can set the call length to be way too long to be showing, and you may want to play with the FORMAT.

Of course, CALL REPORT can be set to In&Out or Out only, so that could bite you as well.
