our company uses the Avaya Merlin system and audit the voice line with TapIT which imports from the SMDR Monitor32. It is connected from the PBX box via 2 ethernet cables but plugs into serial adapters at the computer. these were mistakenly disconnect while system was live and reconnected. now the SMDR Monitor shows "|||" characters instead of numbers and TapIT states no data to generate reports.
can anyone help me reset or correct this issue?

(i've rebooted the pc, restarted the SMDR service, switched connects - didn't know if reconnected correctly when previously disconnect)

thanks in advance

The baud rate on the SMDR port is 1200 (N-8-1)

SMDR is the TOP port, Admin is the bottom one. Make sure it is in the right jack.

You might also try setting the number of data bits from 8 to 7 while leaving parity set to none.

If that fails, I'd quickly check your serial port. To do that, close Tapit and start Procomm, Hyperterminal or other terminal emulator and strap it to use the same serial port.

Next, break the connection at the 355AF adapter and use a paper clip to short the TX and RX pins (2 and 3) toward your computer. Hold down a single key or type willy-nilly if you wish, but anything sent by the keyboard should echo back to the screen. If it comes out garbled or not at all, then you need to look at something other than the PBX's SMDR port. Note that this loopback test works regardless of the bit per second rate (bps is different than baud...sorry, I had to get that in) that you set the port for.

You might also check your Tapit integration profile to make sure it's set for AT&T System 25 or MAGIX.
