SMC7004VWBR Router for VPN to Win2K Workstation

I have a small network of 5 WinXX PC's sharing files located on a Win2K Workstation. I would like to be able to VPN into the Win2K Workstation from home. The network sits behind a SMC7004VWBR router that is handing out the DHCP addresses.

I'm concerned about how safe this is and if there are any specific settings I should use.
