Greetings,

I replaced my SMC router with a Linksys since it appeared the SMC was not always behaving the same way. I am using a SMC wireless card in a laptop which is running W XP. If I disable all wireless security, the modem and laptop hook up just great. If I try to set up WPA with a key that I type into each machine, I can't get the laptop to hook up. I had been using WPA on the SMC with a 10 character key. When I try to use the same key on the Linksys and the SMC card it won't work. So I set a new 11 character key on the Linksys, When I try to change it in the laptop network card settings it appears to revert to the previous key.

Does anyone have an idea how to clear out the latop settings and set thenew ones so I can have a secure wireless set up?

FYI, I was never able to get WEP to work on the SMC card while using windows for network settings.

Thabks for your help in advance!!

Might try updating the drives and firmware for the card.

Thanks! Have done both. Still same results.

Anyone think it would help to remove every trace of the card and software from the laptop and reinstall? If so any ptotocol on how to do this?

TIA

Maybe try resetting your winsock and see if that helps. Im not very knowledgeable on wireless, sorry.
