My XPpro & NT4 PC's were doing well on my Speedstream router until the router broke. It must be the hardware, because the DHCP/LAN switch side still works fine, and the WAN side connects to the cable modem, but the LAN cannot connect to the WAN anymore. I reset the router but still no luck, so I plugged in my SMC7004vbr router.

Now my XPpro PC gets connected fine, but for some reason, the router does not recognize my NT4 PC connection. I tested all the router LAN ports with my XPpro PC and they all light up.

Does anyone know what is wrong?

Do you need to install the software for the router onto the NT 4.0 PC?

Yes, I tried installing the SMC software, but it can't find the router and says I'm not connected. Also, during boot up of the NT4 PC, I get an error in the event log regarding DHCP (I don't know the exact message.) However, if I connect it to the broken Speedstream router, I automatically get a DHCP connection on it. I know it's connected there, because I don't get event log errors and if I add another PC, I can still transfer files back and forth.

Just not sure what to do about this SMC rounter. It works fine, except that my NT4 PC can't see it. Also, there is a minor problem when I browse web pges. Every times when I click on a link in a webpage and it launches a new window, I have to press ESC and refresh to display that page. Kind of minor, but it only happenned once in a while with the old router.
