SmartList Builder Privileges for SQL Tables 10.0 1

We just got the SmartList Builder module and I am attempting to create a SmartList that includes a view that I created. When I attempt to add the view I get the following message:

"You do not have security privileges to create SmartLists with SQL tables."

The user I am using has been assigned the role of POWERUSER and should therefore have ALL permissions.

I tried doing it with the sa user, and that message did not come up - but I'd like to be able to do it with my user as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

If you are on GP 10.0 and your SmartList is based on SQL views or tables, you will need to add permissions to the View SmartLists with SQL Tables operation. Here are the settings under Security Tasks:

Product: SmartList Builder
Type: SmartList Builder Permissions
Series: SmartList Builder Permissions or SmartList Builder (depends on the Service Pack)
Operations: View SmartLists with SQL Tables

This only has to be done once, no need to repeat if for every new SmartList.

Yes, I have created that security task. I created a security role that this task is part of. In fact the security task has ALL the permissions checked (rather than just the View SmartLists with SQL Tables).

The user in question has been granted POWERUSER access, adding that security role to the user results in the following message:

"This user has access to all application functionality because the POWERUSER role is already marked for this user."

I saved it anyway - and still the privileges message persists.

If I go to Tools > SmartList Builder > Security > SQL Table Security

The view does show up - I checked it and the sa user can add the view to the SmartList, but my user (the POWERUSER one) is unable to.

I've added the permission with no success.

I've also found I cannot access the SB Goto window or the Calculations window - which may be a related problem.

I just tested this with GP 10.0 SP 4: created new user, gave that user POWERUSER role. I was able to create a new SmartList based on a SQL view with no error. Can you try creating a new user, giving them POWERUSER and seeing if you have the same issue? Also, what service pack of GP 10.0 are you on?

I tried creating a new user and giving them POWERUSER access - same problem with that user.

GP 10.00.0774.

I haven't applied any service packs yet, because I'm not sure how the 3rd party customizations will handle that.

I am almost positive this is an issue with not having any service packs. I cannot find a definitive KB article or item in a fix list, but I definitely recall there being numerous issues with SmartList Builder until at least SP 1, possibly SP 2. If you cannot apply service packs yet and it works as 'sa', that's your work around, unfortunately. If you have a test environment where you can test out installing a service pack, I would recommend trying it with SP 4 to confirm there is not something else going on.

For what it's worth, I typically like to wait until at least SP 1 before I recommend a new version to any of our clients. With GP 10.0 I was not ready to recommend it until SP 2.

I'll definitely try to upgrade to SP 4 - I guess 'sa' will have to do for now.

As a side - we haven't really had issues with the system and we've been running it since either before SP 1 or just around SP 1 (I had to develop the customization first and that took some time).

Thanks.
