Smart Linking delays in CR 9 3

Oracle 8 database (Lawson)

When adding some tables to my report, once I selected the links tab, Crystal would go away for almost an hour to do "smart" things for me.

I changed the DoSmartLinkingByKey to No in the registry and the problem went away.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
SOFTWARE
Crystal Decisions
9.0
Database Options
Alter the DoSmartLinkingByKey key to No

Hope this helps to resolve other people suffering delays because Crystal didn't allow for turning off the Smart Linking.

Sometimes their oversights floor me.

That was the first thing I used to disable with ANY Crystal install.

Thanks synapsevampire!

As I've always said, smart linking isn't very smart. I always turn it off too - haven't moved out of Crystal 8.5 yet, but will be doing so the first part of next year, so this is good info to have.

I have both CR 9 and 10 installed and I only see the DoSmartLinkingByKey key for version 10. Can you verify that is there for version 9 and if so do you have all the service packs installed?

Yeah, I definitely have the key, it solved a monstrous delay for me.

I'm running Win2K Pro on this box, and I do have the latest service pack installed.

I do not have CR 10 installed, nor any previous versions, however I do have CE 9 installed as well.

Try adding in the key if you don't have it, perhasp that will help:

DoSmartLinkingByKey
Type REG_SZ
Value Data = No

It still does the smart linking, it just does so quickly.

Ok, I installed Service Pack 3 for CR 9, and now the "DoSmartLinkingByKey" key is now available for CR 9. I know for sure that it was not available before I applied the service pack, so obviously the service pack added the registry key.
