Hi there,

At work we have an old Dell laptop running Windows 95. My problem is, when it starts up (showing the POST and processor/BIOS information, the DOS screen is not full screen. This continues through the Win 95 startup screen until the Desktop is loaded, the screen then resizes to the correct size with no borders. Anybody got any ideas why it is screwing up in DOS mode only? It does this if I run anything (all right, its DoomII) from either the MS-DOS prompt in Windows or from restarting in MS-DOS mode.

Thanks all,

Ian

This is normal for laptops, the pixels are fixed at either 800x600 or 1024x768 and Dos only displays in 640x480 so it will only use that amount of pixels in the middles of the screen, the WIN98 bootup picture is only 320x240 and expanded to 640x480 so theres nothing that will expand that.

If your screen is 1024x768 and you set it to 800x600 you will get a border round the edge, newer screens are much better than the older ones and this isn't a problem on new systems. ---------------

Thanks johnodq, I can see what you are saying but the thing used to boot up fine with full screen DOS - basically running like a desktop would. I don't know what has been done to it, but all of a sudden the DOS side of things suffered a reduction.

Weird! :)
