thanks for your replies guys! anyway, SMAH - I downloaded the bremove software and run it on C but it didnt find the virus, am trying to run it to the other computers which is using the same printer right now. We were able to print before without any problem, then this suddenly happen.
JRBARNETT - the printer is an HP1220C shared and connected to a workstation and running through LAN and Windows 98. I wish you could still help me guys! thanks again!

Can you print from the machine that the printer is connected to? (ie it is a local printer)?

John

yes sir it can print from the machine where its connected to, but sometimes it doesn't too, the same thing with us, when we try to print to that printer, it will say printing from the bottom left corner of the screen then it will end its printing but it never actually did print and sometimes it just hangs and i have to end the process by pressing ctrl-alt-del, but i have to reboot because when i check on the printer settings there wont be any printer icons on it.

I'm still not sure that this is a virus. Did the online scan turn up anything?

I agree with Smah. I've never heard of a virus infecting print spoolers or drivers, or corrupting network settings either.

Can the machine hosting the printer access networking resources (eg file shares) held on other machines OK? (if not, check its cabling and that network settings are OK).
