I have a SLT(4) card installed in an IPK2 and attached to it's ports are fax machines.

This all works well but i have been doing my head in trying to work out how to present an engaged tone to callers when the SLT port is in use. Currently the fax will answer a call and whilst "off-hook" the number still rings but obviously does not answer.

Any help much appreciated.

Try replacing the FAX machine with a SLT and test it. This will eliminate the FAX machine as a possible cause of the problem.
Also check for any call forwarding on the FAX extensions.
Check your cross connects for any half taps or crossed wires.

Thanks for your reply however i fail to see how a single fax machine could answer the same line more than once at the same time - sorry.

I did find a fix and that was to disable call queuing in the incoming class of service.

Thanks for your time nevertheless.

My suggestion was an attempt to isolate the issue. Sure a FAX machine probably cannot do that but there may be some option turned on within that caused it. Manufacturers add bells and whistles all the time. Many default them to options you would never need or use.

Nevertheless you found the problem and fixed it. Ultimately that is all that matters.
