Our company has a large wan. We are using Novell client 4.91 service pack1
When a user logs into our network at our one facility, they have no problems whatsoever. The users have the LDAP and SLP entered into their ws's in the Novell Client properties for contexless login
When the same user goes to our other facility they cannot login, they get the "tree or server cannot be found" error
When the Novell client properties are checked, specifically the slp settings, all the slp and DA entries are stripped out. When they are added back in the user can login without any problems.
Question
Why are these entries being removed when they are previously entered, what is it about our other facility that would remove the slp and DA entries?

I have exhaustively tried to find an answer to this with no luck
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, if you are putting this stuff in the client manually, you are wasting a lot of time when you really don't need to.

Specific to SLP. It's more practical, and completely maintenece free to use DHCP to configure the SLP parameters. You just configure Options 78 and 79 with the correct information and you never think about it again. WOrkstations get the correct parameters when they boot up.

It's easiest if you're using the Novell DHCP server, but you can also do this with most other DHCP implementations, including Microsofts (with a little extra work).

I don't know why your settings would be disappearing, but I wouldn't spend 2 seconds trying to troubleshoot that one.

as marv says get them in the dhcp

and the best check from a client is go to a dos box and type slpinfo/all

Thanks guys, I knew there was an easier way to do it. Just wish I knew why the entries keep dissapering, it bugs me!
