I bought this switch to comply with corporate standards (all switching and routing must be Cisco).

Bought one of these to replace an Old 3com 10mpbs switch.

But this switch is way slower transfering data, for example a 500MB file takes 2 hours to transfer from s PC to PC or PC to Server, it took way less on the 3com switch, also some apps like use SQL and Foxpro work way slower.

I setup the switch using the smartports feature.

I've checked the Fiber and the CAT 5e cabling and it works well.

Any tips or pointers on this?

There is a common problem with Cisco switches when connecting to legacy equipment that are 10-Base-T ethernet. For example if the router is a 2611 the best it can operate at is 10 full duplex. The Cisco switch port connected to it must also match and be manually set to either 10 full or 10 half. Auto never works properly and will cause no end to errors on the interfaces. Any older NIC's, printers, or other 10-Base-T network must also have this tweak. More than likely the 3-Com was auto-sensing auto-switching.

Any way to set the Switch to auto-sense auto-switch to avoid these kinds of errors? I don't mind security and all that stuff I just want the switch to "switch" (no v-lans and all that stuff either), like the 3com I had w/o problems.

Also these switches are losing the password I set and I've reset it twice already.

Model is WS-C2950C-24, both the PC side and they switch are reporting 100Mbps, but works like a 10Mbps hub (on speed terms).

The uplink also reports 100Mbps on both sides, this one is connected to a Cisco 4003 Switch.

on both switches do a show interface f0/? for the ports involved in connecting these two switches together. Please post results. Are you writing the config before a reload? Cisco does not auto save.

Of course I write the config..

Hey, turns out corporate (the guys that manage the 4003), had set the 100BaseFX ports to half duplex on their side, as soon as they changed the config the speed improved drastically.

That certainly will do it . These problems are usually speed/duplex issues.

The easiest way to spot speed/duplex errors is to enable terminal monitor when you telnet in. Then you will see the console messages.
