Good day,

I was wondering, if I have a slowly changing dimention which makes use of a view in SQL server then, would there be a way to only update that specific dimension sy once a day but via SSAS and not in SSIS or on the DB.

In other words would I be able to only update that dimention when say a GETDATE() is before 8h00 in the morning ?

I'm not sure what you are asking. You can create a job to process your dimension whenever you need to. Just set it up with SQL Server Agent / Analysis Services Command, and schedule it before 8 AM.

at the base level no you can't. Nevermind the list of reasons around data consitency or rules of the methodology. Your Dimensions are built based on the query defined in your DSV. You do not want to be altering your dsv query to do what you are asking.

Thanks for the input.....

The input helped to some extend but, I need to check something with you....

Help me by giving me an answer to this if possible....

You know that in an SSAS Processing Task within SSIS one can select only one dimension. Now,I was thinking that if I wanted to process only that one dimension, the slow changing dimension once a day say before 8AM then, would it work if I put an SSAS Processing Task in SSIS and only select the one dimension that will execute say 7h30 because it reads a datetime from SQL server. Then I will add an aditional SSAS Processing Task that wil process for the rest of the day on the hour but, within that SSAS Processing Task I select the rest of the dimensions except the slow changing one.

Would that be one of the reasons why one can select dimensions individually or is there a different reason for why one can select these dimensions individually within an SSAS Processing Task ?
