I noticed a lot of subject similar to mine but none really helped me...
My problem is as follows...
I have a (access) asp driven web site with three databases..None of them are very large, and by this I mean under 40 records in each...one has ony 5 records in it...
Now, what happens is lets say after a reboot, the database results are very fast...after about ne day, the results are painfully slow...I can reboot then they are fast again...any ideas???

thanks a lot

Corey

are you explicitly closing your connections and setting them to nothing?

eg:
conn.close
set conn = nothing

are you doing this as soon as possible?

if you are, then i don't know what the problem could be.

It could be many things so I need to ask some questions:

What OS are you running (I assume Windows but what flavor, NT, 95, 98, ME, 2K)?

What version of Access?

How much RAM and at what processor speed?

What web server (IIS, PWS)?

Is the web server on the same box as the databases?

Why do you need four databases instead of one database with four tables?

Very true Orsus... i didn't even catch the 3 DB.. I thought it said 3 tables... nice catch.

thanks....

Server->NT4.0

What version of Access?-97

How much RAM and at what processor speed? ->512mbRam 933mhz

What web server (IIS, PWS)?-> IIS

Is the web server on the same box as the databases? Yes

Why do you need four databases instead of one database with four tables? All are different...good idea maybe I will combine them later.....

Thanks alot....

Corey

Shouldn't have any issues with the box, using one database may help. Also, I would look into MS Data Engine (MSDE) to replace the Access database. MSDE is more robust than Access, very similar to SQL Server (easy to migrate later) and inexpensive. I recieved a copy with a purchase of Visual Basic 6.0 but I am sure it is avaliable for purchase/download seperatly.

Next time you notice that your data access is very slow, do this...

Press CTRL,ALT & DEL, and start task manager, sort processes by Memory Usage and Processor Time. Check which processes are using the most memory and processor. If any process is using a lot of memory, then it may need a service pack. Also if your IIS server is on-line then you may have got the Code-Red worm.
