I made a tiny new .mdb file database (not even 2.5 megs in size) and for some reason it is unbelievably slow. Every little thing I do behind the scenes takes forever: I select a query/form from the database window and click on design veiw, it takes about 20 seconds to finally open. I click on a control in a report and it takes 10-15 seconds before that control finally receives the focus. From a form in design view I click to open it normally and again it takes 15 seconds. Every time I click my mouse to do anything, no matter how minor, it's like watching paint dry. I have no idea what the problem is. I haven't done anything unusual in this database that I haven't done in other databases as well. I ran jetcomp on it and it went through fine but is still just as slow. It's on the same network drive as other databases that are not having any problems. Help!

Sometimes I find that re-compiling form code/modules finds little issues that need correcting.

Maybe worth a try

If IT ain’t working Binnit and Reboot

I've seen the same behavior in a database I was working on this week. The data was split from the UI, and the tables were in a DB on the network. To get around this while you're working with the other objects in the DB, try opening one of the tables, and leaving it open while you work.

Wow rjoubert! What a difference! Not sure I totally understand the whys behind it, but it works. Thanks!

Thanks binnit, too. I tried that first but it didn't help in my case. I'll keep it in mind in the future though.

While I was working on a report in my DB, it was running very slow everytime I selected a control on the report. Apparently, it accesses the Data Source behind the report anytime you try to do anything with the report. I also tried blanking out the Data Source while I was working in the report, and that seemed to help too.
