Pretty simple on this one.

I've just bought a new PC, and it's got 256MB RAM (266mhz) in it. My old machine (which i'm getting rid of) has a stick of 256MB older RAM (133mhz i think).

Is it worth putting in this RAM? Or would it just slow the machine down?

Thanks

I think that the RAM from your older PC will be PC133 SDRAM, and your new PC will be DDR266 RAM, and because of the differences I don't think it will work in your new machine. Chances are the older one will be a 168 pin DIMM and the new one is 184 pin DIMM so it wouldn't fit anyway.

Even though he is a programmer talking about hardware issues :) Mr Barnett is correct, it won't fit or work. Even 266 ddr memory is cheap these days, just buy some!

(I worked at CompuServe for 10 years and enjoyed picking on programmers, so nothing personal )

I have worked in a variety of IT jobs, including as a programmer, in IT support (both MS and Novell) and database design/admin. My Tek-Tips profile says more...

What do you think I should categorise myself as?
