anybody got any ideas on why my win 2000 has slowed down ?? the set up is 17GB HD 128 Mb ram pentium 3/500, tried all the usual defrag and scancheck stuff, still very slow.I'm running win98 and 2000 on the same but partitioned HD and it worked well for months. I know I have something like 32 applications running when I check the task manager but dont know how to stop them from starting with windows. I can stop some of the "running" aplications while in task manager but they just start up again on my next boot. any help would be most welcome.

I am at work and am not at my computer. I will tell you that I have had problems with win2k but never being slow. If you want to stop services from starting I think they are in control panel services. You can tell which programs are set to run. Try going to microsoft update and make sure you have SP1 installed this should help.

You can try removing them from the startup menu. I am not sure if the msconfig program exists in w2k but if it does then you can stop programs from loading in memory.
