Hi Everyone.

We are a small Web company (8 employees) and we have a 2Mbps ADSL Line (256Kb upstream) which is fine most of the time, but if one for us starts uploading some large (say 50Mb) to one of our web servers all Internet access comes almost to a grinding halt. We are currently using a DLink DSL-504 router with firmware R2.21.002.06.b14uk. We previously had a 512kbps ADSL line on one PC using a USB Modem and Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing and never has this problem. Is it a problem with the router?

Thanks in advanced for any help.

Best Regards

Andrew.

I would say it's the router , if you are uploading something that big then yes probably will hog most of the bandwidth unless the router has the capability of running something like fair queueing on the serial link .

It is likely the low bandwidth of the upstream.

But there is quite a bit you can do to improve things. Use the broadbanreports.com site to test your connection, and the freeeware DrTCP tool on the site to adjust every single workstation's MTU and RWIN values.
