Hello

After add second IDE Seagate HDD W2K start hangs for about
1 min (when blue creeping line reach half). Motherboard
is Intel D815EPFV w/ 2 IDE controllers. Primary controller
has now both disks. Boot disk, Quantum Fireball Plus is
Master and this new Seagate as Slave. Secondary controller
has DVD as Master and CD-Writer as Slave. I tried any
combinations. No changes. Without Seagate everytning is OK.
I see Event ID 9 and 11, but MS only propose change from
DMA to PIO. Strange proposal, because controller support
DMA.
Any ideas or similar experience would be very helpful.

thanx

So you tried pairing new drive on second IDE with DVD and CD writer? Jumpers definitely set ok? What are interface speed (ATA) ratings of both drives? New drive definitely ok? (is it new - or new to you?)

Does bios take any longer to detect it on boot?

Yes, all possible pairing.

Jumpers definitely set ok?

Yes

What are interface speed (ATA) ratings of both drives?

Ultra DMA 5 ATA-100 for both

New drive definitely ok? (is it new - or new to you?)

HDD is new and I had no problems working w/ it after W2K
load. But this 1 min hang....

Does bios take any longer to detect it on boot?

No I didn't saw any significant difference.

thanx

You could get quantum's drive diagnostic utility (from their website) to check the drive really is ok.

IDE cable 80 wire? (clutching at straws!)
