To Backup everyones mailboxes (41GB) It's taking 7 hours, at 98.55MB/Min.

Backing up normal file shares, it's taking 2 minutes to do 1Gb at 456MB/Min.

Whats with this massive difference? It's causing the backups to go for TOO long than we can afford.

Is there a reason for this? Maybe a config problem causing it to go alot slow? Backups are being done fro m1am in the morning, so no one should be using the mailboxes...

Or is this a known problem/speed issue thats expected from using Document Level?

Thanks

We have about the same speed difference at our backup servers (500 MB/min for data and 80 Mb/Min for doc level).

The speed of doc level backup depends on the size of the database, the performance of the server and the state of the database (cleaned up or not). The exchange server has to peform some actions to be able to retrieve every mail from the database. This results in a lower backup speed.

On our largers exchange servers we use differential document level backup to decrease the backup time. In the weekends full doc level backups are taken.
