slow telnet connection

We have 4 AIX machines which can be accessed through telnet (using secureCRT). we're using this from our work-machines.
Today and some time a couple of weeks ago the telnet connection was very slow. it took almost a couple of minutes before connection was made.

does anyone know what might cause this delay?
could it be dns or something like that?
