slow telnet connect

Could anyone tell me two things?<br>

1. when I telnet to linux (red hat 6.0) on pentium 450 from windows 98 workstation, responds is very slow. It takes at least half minute to get login screen.<br>

2. How could I setup xwindows for ordinary user.<br>

when I type in the command startx, I have message

1.) What sort of results do you get when you ping the Linux server? Could you give this a try and post the results, please.<br>

2.) Hmmm... Didn't quite get the message there Taking a wild stab in the dark, get the latest X rpms from your local RedHat mirror. A little bell's ringing about a security patch and root access and normal users... Could be miles out, though, so re-posting the error message would help.
