Serving ASPs from a DEC Alpha running WindowsNT Server 4.0 running IIS 4.0 is about 3 times slower than serving same from X86 computer running WindowsNT Workstation 4.0 running Personal Web Server.

Also, after serving a couple of scripts from Alpha, web service seems to "lock".

The ASPs I've tested all retrieve data from an MsAccess database on another server.

Same website setup on each computer.

Any ideas on what's going on? Is this a know problem?

Please check what services you are running on the machine and to me it sounds like a slow machine I faced the same problem using pws after a while

Unicorn11
webmaster@tripmedia.com

Hi there it all likeminded fellows!!!!!!

The DEC is running:

Alerter
Computer Browser
Event Log
FTP Publishing Service
IIS Admin Service
Messenger
MSDTC
Net Logon
NT LM Security Support Provider
Plug and Play
Protected Storage
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service
Remoteboot Service
Schedule
Server
Simple TCP/IP Services
Spooler
Task Scheduler
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
Windows Management
Workstation
World Wide Web Publishing Service

I suspect the real problem is only 80MB RAM on the DEC. However, it's really disappointing that the Web Service "locks" after serving (or attempting to serve) one or two ASPs.
I belive there is a option where u can set the no of users of the site please check that

the no of services are fine

Unicorn11
webmaster@tripmedia.com

Hi there it all likeminded fellows!!!!!!

I have the IIS settings to allow maximum no. of users.

However, this is a very low access situation. The problems occur even with only one user accessing the site.

Dear nazzaro,

Have you looked in the event log for information?

The type of lock up you are describing is generally caused by faulty IIS filters in the form of custom ISAPI extensions. Do you have any custom ISAPI extensions running on your server?

-pete

Nothing unusual in the event log.

There is the normal message for "Service Started" for Active Server Pages in the Application log, but no errors show in either application or system log related to IIS, Active Server Pages, W3SVC or anything else for that matter.

There are no ISAPI filters configured, and the only application mapping is for .asp

All content seems to be served fine, except when the server has to execute an ASP. It might serve one or two (very slowly) but soon "locks" all web server response.
