HI,

I don't know if anybody can help but I have a bit of a problem. I have a SCO server that is running slowly, it all started about three months ago when we put in a Windows 2000 server and it appears to be getting slower by the day.

Their is plenty of space left on the server and we have only added 1 new users and replaced two terminals with PC's running terminal emulation software.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

U need to define "running" to know where to start to look.
is it hesitating returning screen output?
is it not responding on the network connection?
how do sar and sar -r look....any thing max'd out?
is the w2k box the dns?
what does /etc/resolv.conf look like?

Hoping to help

We you say "slower by the day" are you refering to system processes or do you mean login access (telnet)

I have seen this in the past where netwrok telnet access gets really slow. It turns out to be a DNS resoloution problem. You have to do one of two things.

1. Create DNS entries for your the client computers logging into your Unix box. This only applies if you are running yuor own DNS internally on yuor network.

and / or

2. Create entries for each client computer in /etc/hosts

Option 2 with a doubt will speed up the telnet login process.
