Slow Restore Times

I'm currently running some restore tests using a NetWare 6.0 sp5 SAN attached server using TSM as the backup software.

The speed of these restores are slow. I'm told that the bottleneck is the NetWare FileSystem as the TSM server is constantly waiting for the NetWare server to pass work thru.

There is dedicated Gigbit backup LAN which is hardly been utilized.

Anyone any ideas what NetWare parameters can be tweaked to speed up the restore.

Approx restore time on a compressed NSS volume is 100Gb in 116 hours with no AV software running on server.

The server is an IBMx365 4 way processor with 4Gb of RAM.

I'm not too familiar with Tivoli software, but we had a similar issue with Veritas. We had two media servers that were communicating with each other, trying to decide which of the two were to process the restore requests. For each process they would chatter back and forth before performing each restore request. The problem was discovered when examining some packet captures. After making a few media server changes, our throughput went up dramatically.
