Maybe about 6-8 weeks ago after installing a group of windows updates to my Windows 2003 Server (DC/File Server) I started experiencing extremely timely restarts. My server now takes 23 minutes from start to finish to reboot. It sits on the screen that says "Preparing Network Connections" for about 10 minutes, then sits on the screen that says "Applying Computer Settings" for another 10 minutes or so before I get a login dialog box. I now can not risk to restart during a production day due to how long the process takes. I hope that someone else has this same problem and has figured exactly which update caused this so I can remove it.
thanks,
kevin

HI,

I am having exactly the same problem, mine i know though is caused by my DHCP server service hanging on startup. This is a fresh win 2003 install on a dell poweredge server. I am unsure what is causing this at the moment. Once the server has started everything is fine.

I hope this sheds a little light.
