We are currently using ArcServe 2000 on a NT4 server. I backup 6 servers nightly. I have the backup set to do incremental backups on weekdays, and a full backup every Friday night. Right now, any normal files will get backed up anywhere from 69 Mb/min to 90 Mb/min. However, when it gets to the registry on the servers, the backup speed slows down to ~4 Mb/min. What this ends up meaning is that a differential backup that starts at 8:00 pm doesn't finish until 11:00 am. the full backup that starts at 8:00 pm Friday doesn't finish until 9:00 pm Saturday. Is there anyway of speeding up the registry backup? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Slow registry Backup

There was a patch specifically released for the registry slow backup, BUT alas, it has been removed and you will now need to apply SP3 instead as it had been incorporated into it.
remember apply SP3 to the arcserve server AND the agents.
