I have a windows 2003 server which is a printer server and all the clients are XP SP2. The problem is that when users print the jobs seems to stay spooling for ages. Some jobs eventually come out while other just seem to hang up the rpinter. This is a large site with many users printing at the same time but its never been this slow before. All the printers are HP4650Ns or HP 2420Ns.
Things i have tried:
Setup a second dedicated print server with only a few of the biggest and busiest printers but that had no obvious effect.
Moved the Print Spooler directory to a different drive.
Updated both the firmware and the printer drivers.
My first point of call was that there was simply too much network traffic which was slowing the whole process but i've tried to print a 15 page word document after everyone had left to see if it would print at higher speed and it was still slow...much slower that say about 6 months ago.
