I have a simple 1 MB table that consists of 5 small tables. The biggest table has 80 records. None of the tables are linked. The database consists of the following tables: parts, stores, states, orders and orderdetail.

The only complex item in the database is a Form/Subform combination based on tblOrders and tblOrderDetail.

The database was running fine and then all of a sudden during design it is causing my Win 98 / Office 2000 machine to drag terribly (PII w/256 Ram). This only happens when the database is open. I have tried repair/compact.

I moved the same database to a new machine P4 256 Ram XP / Office 200 machine and it runs fine.

Hi:

I think you've answered your own question: "...the same database to a new machine P4 256 Ram XP / Office 200(0) machine and it runs fine"

However, I just (a week or so ago) installed Office XP. Soon the db began to drag terribly in design view...saving forms, etc.

I reinstalled (repaired) Office XP, and it cleared it up.

However, we have two Pentium II workstations out of five...they're significantly slower than the PIII's running the same OS (W2K). All have 256MB ram. [glasses][tt] Gus Brunston - Access2002(DAO)[/tt] Intermediate skills.

I just managed to fix this problem. I exported my subform, tblOrderDetails to another database. I closed my database, reopened and imported the subform back into the original database.

Everything works fine now.

Thanks
