Slow performance when the disk space is < 30%

SCO with raid 5

There is a problem in performance when the data disks get to less than 30% free, which is around 8GB (should be plenty). For speed I have manage to delete some files that where created and now it is running fine.

There are no disk errors etc and the performance is fine now.

Any idea's as this has happened twice now.

That's odd. Are there many, many files on the filesystem? Annihilannic.

What kind of array setup are you using? How may drives, what size, what kind, what controller etc.
