I have a user who has a POP account, he gets around 100 e-mails/day. When downloading his emails Outlook gets stuck. It downloads about 70% and then it just sits there and never finishes downloading. I mean I never let it download for more than 2 hours. His e-mails are archived, so the .pst file is split into smaller files. His inbox is currently 300MB.
He mentioned that he noticed that Outlook is trying to index those e-mails and maybe that's what the problem is?
Anyone has any idea what would cause Outlook to be painfully slow when receiving e-mails?

Thanks!

Without knowing the whole story as to how long this has been going on this might be a long shot but...

Is it possible for your user to log on to the web and check this POP account he/she has set up in Outlook? It may be possible that there is a corrupt message or a very large attachment that is stopping the mail downloading after it hits 70%.

Long shot but worth a mention, apologies if I'm wasting your time on this one.

Another possibility could be his email virus or spam scanner.

Try temporarily turning it off and see if it helps.

Otherwise, try setting up another profile.

Or he has an email message stuck on the POP3 server. If there is a web interface to that mailbox, I'd log into that account and see if there is some funky message, like somethin without a sent date, or without a sender.
