Slow OLE of Office etc in XP SP2... a resolution!

Dead chuffed about this; for the last couple of years I've found that clients installing SP2 on XP (or buying machines with SP2 preinstalled) would suffer from very slow OLE automation of Word (particularly) and some of my products would be rendered unusable.

M$ has never recognised the problem, and has provided no fixes... but installing SP3 fixes it!
