We have an NT4SP6 server with about ten workstations running Win98SE or ME. I want to upgrade to XP Pro but I keep running into a major stumbling block.
We have a couple of folders on the server containing over 15,000 photos. The 98 and ME workstation can access these folders with only a couple of second delay but XP takes over a full minute to do so.
I have installed XP on several different computers and keep getting the same results. If I copy the entire folder to the workstation, I can access it with no problems. So it isn't a "display" or "association" problem.
So far I've tried turning off all of the Local Security encryption, checked that no machine but the server has "Browse Master" enabled and that I'm connecting to the server using its "Login Script."
At one point, an M$ rep had me install NETBUIE protocal and that DID speed things up significantly. But NETBUIE is not supported in XP so that is not a real solution.
Anybody got any suggestions?
Thanks, Granpalew
