this concerns slow graphics over a VPN from MSwindows to UNIX machines.
i have used Omni-x and EXCEED to connect a MSwindows computer to a unix computer across the internet. this is done thru a VPN.
any graphic-intensive actions (even just the CDE screen display) takes an incredibly long time (DSL download speed is 1.4MHz). commands via telnet happen very fast.
every query i have made gets the same anwser....cant do fast graphics over the internet via VPN & EXCEED or Omni-x or anything else.
i'll ask that question again, here...... is that a fact? ..... i imagine many many people would want this fast interface, and the problem has been solved (?)
now for a really dumb follow-up question ..... if i can pull up graphic-intensive windows via my internet webrowser (even movie trailers!!!) why do mswindows-to-unix graphics take forever over the internet.
this has to be an important issue for anyone working over the internet...... it is certainly a hot topic in my work.
finally.... the irony of all this is that i have a unix box right here and it cannot be connected to the distant unix box by the VPN because the VPN was created for a MSwindows remote connection which forces the use of (1) an mswindows computer and (2) EXCEED, Omni-x or whatever to make the connection & translation...... seems like a lot of speed bumps would go away if there was a unix-unix VPN.
i recognize that i have asked several questions.....but i figured, while was on a roll....
thanks, in advance, for your reply.
