I have a main office (100 users) a branch office (15 users) and a consistant vpn between the two sites.
I have 3 DCs at "main" and 1 DC at "Branch" and Branch DC is also contains a Global Cataloge.
I setup the subnet then the site and the site link as well as an OU in which I now have all of the brach PCs and user accounts.
The users now receive "applying personal settings" for approx 30 seconds. This is too long.

Please help.

This would suggest that the users in the branch office are not authenticating against the local DC.

You say you have created a site for the remote office and associated it's subnet with it's site.

Have you also moved the remote site DC from the default first site to the remote site subnet?

If not this is why it takes so long to apply the settings.

I have moved the Branch DCfrom the default site an d within AD Sites and Services the Branch DC is showing in the remote site.

Double-check all of your settings just to ensure you have not made a typo or something. Your clients seem to prefer to authenticate against a remote DC. You would also see this behaviour if your clients are Windows 98 /NT if the PDC emulator is in the Main site. In that case you have to apply a registry fix to the clients.

DNS is working on the branch site and the branch clients are all XP Pro SP2. The branch clients are using the Branch DC for DNS.

How can I check that I have associated the subnet with it's site correctly?

Open Active Directory Sites And Services. Under the subnet folder you should see the subnets you created. Right-click a subnet and select properties to find which site it is associated with.
