Using Page Maker 7, when a graphic or text is copied and pasted into another spot, it takes 7 minutes to load. The first 5 minutes of using program it loads just fine. Then after it takes 7 minutes to load one page. Any suggestions
PM7 is problematic with WinXP SP3. Rolling back to SP2 can help.
Make sure ALL the PM and associated files are on a local hard disk - copy them to the local hard disk if they are on a network drive. No USB flash drives either.
Make sure the "Compose to…" printer is a Adobe PDF or another Postscript printer driver (the printer itself doesn't have to be attached or even present; just use the driver). PM works better with the PS driver.
Make sure no images are embedded, only linked, and break all links with any text, especially Word, files.
If you have imported any paragraph styles or colours from Word, alter them to break any links. Delete "Normal" style if it is present.
Use File -> Save As… to save the publication under another name.
Exit PM and search for the PM configutation files (PM*.cnf) and rename them something like PM7*.old. Re-load PM when they will all be re-created.
After that, you're probably looking at re-installing PM or else where, such as the vid card driver.
Your long term answer is to move onto InDesign while you can still use your PM Licence number for a discount.
