Slow Internet Speeds over Wireless

I have a Linksys WAP11 in my mates house across the road - and a WAP 11 in my house. His is set to the access point, and mine is set to the access point client.

on my side, the wireless side I can only get around 33kbs on internet downloads. on his side, he gets 60kbs.

I have turned off WEP, this makes no difference.

If I set up a wireless card in my house, I get 87% signal and 87% Signal quality - don't think this is the issue....

Anyone got ant ideas?
