Would anyone have any potential causes of slow access to a Windows 2008 server?
One example is trying to connect via UNC to the server name:
\\servername
from an XP client on the domain.
This can take minutes to appear sometimes which I know cannot be correct.
The file server is a beast for just 55 users. Quad core, 8 gig ram, RAID10 15k drives so the server spec is fine.
Another example of its slowness is when I first open a Word document and it sits there for around 8 seconds before it actually retrieves it.
I am desperate for the users to see benefit from a move away from a crumbly old Netware box but at the moment a few have noticed the difference!
Oh, and the obvious is the AntiVirus but whilst I do have McAfee latest on the file server I have the on access scanning turned off just to check. The other server does not have the virus checker even installed on it yet and I see the same sypmtoms.
Many thanks for any assistance!
Just need a place to start really on this one as its abit wooly.
