We have a 150MB file on our public HTTP web server (hosted offsite) that can download to my desktop in about a minute. The same file also sits on our in-house intranet server (Windows on VMware) but it takes 7 minutes more to download internally via HTTP.
This problem seems limited to HTTP. I can transfer this file between the intranet server and my desktop in a few seconds via FTP. When I am logged in to the VMware machine, I can download this file via HTTP quickly as and as the full network name,
Apache is not configured with any throttling.
Can anyone suggest solutions to improving this slow HTTP traffic? I see some documentation on "traffic shaping" in VMware administration but I don't see where there would be a difference in speed between FTP and HTTP.
I do not administer the VMware but I administer the system running on it. I am asking to help out my colleague that administers VMware.
