My configuration:
- D-Link DI-614+ wireless router
- desktop wired to the router
- laptop wirelessly connected to router through D-Link DWL-650
- Both running XP Pro (all updates applied).
My problem is file transfers. When I try to copy a bunch of files (say 200 MB worth) from the laptop to the desktop, it goes VERY slow. And every few seconds it drops the connection, finds it again, resumes slow copying, drops again... etc. Eventually it drops the connection long enough so as to cancel the file transfer.
I have tried doing the file transfer when the laptop is wired to the router and it is very fast as expected, so it is definitely a wireless issue.
During the test my laptop was right next to the router so it is not a distance issue. Also I have the latest firmware on the router and the latest drivers on the wireless adapter in the laptop.
Otherwise the wireless connection works good for browsing the Web, email, etc., although streaming video causes XP to lock up occasionally, but I could chalk that up to Quicktime or XP or some other problem.
Thanks for any help you can give.
