slow Excel Export on terminal server

Hi,
I'm running Accpac 5.5 on a MS terminal server.
When I'm in the office and export an Accpac report into Excel (formatted) it goes reasonable fast.
When overseas the export is painfully slow.
I thought, when connecting to the TS, all you do happens locally on your TS?
I save the exported file on the server desktop so why would there be such a difference in speed?
It's that slow I think it must export the data into the cache of my local computer and then transfer it back to the Excel file on the server.
Exporting a data only file is even slower.
 
It's not exporting via your local workstation, no TS data is processed on your local workstation. Maybe the TS server is under powered.
 
Or, your network settings have your TS desktop redirected to a local folder.
 
No, then it would be slow when I'm in the office as well.
Is anyone else experiencing similiar issues when exporting reports to Excel from a distant location in TS?
It must have something to do with internet speed and latency.
If I access it from home its still ok, but when I'm overseas its terrible.
I would understand if the TS session was slow because of network latency, but a proess on the server itself should still run at the same speed.
 
I have installs around the world and across the country, I've never had a problem like that.
 
Same here, never have a problem with speed... except if the server is under powered.
The TS is not on a VM is it?
 
When you say the export is slow - does it progress - just at a slow rate or does it wait for a long time and then complete the export?
 
The server is a Hyper V machine.

When I say slow I mean that it progresses at a slow rate - exporting like 50-60 records at a time, then it stops and then continues.
When running in the office the export is one continious process and much faster.

But doubt its a resources issue.
What resource lets an export run fast in the office and run slow when out of office.

 
Are you sure you're logged into the same TS when you're in or out of the office?
 
I'm guessing that there is a process that is trying to establish contact with a local folder or resource - not necessarily directly related to Crystal's export - that is causing the intermittent pauses. Crystal ends up having to wait for the process to time out or make contact with the resource before it is allowed to continue processing.

Might want to check on the Crystal forums here or on SAP's site.
 
In a TS session, select Start/Run, type in %TEMP% and press Enter. Maybe the TEMP folder is not on the TS server.
 
Ok, I did another export and the temp file is created in the %temp% folder which is on the TS.

While it was doing the export I went in the resource monitor (the TS is a Windows Server 2008).
In the resource monitor I noticed a process crw32.exe under the network tab.
Why would a Crystal process show up under network?
Maybe that's a question for the Crystal forum...

 
Doesn't make sense. Crw32.Exe is the Crystal editor. It's not required to run reports. And doesn't need to be installed on the TS.
 
Well, I exported it from the editor.
The question is why would cause any network traffic?
 
@ Johnhugh - if you are using RDP, go into the settings at the client and make sure that you are not allowing the terminal server session to access the local disk on the client. This setting is great and has many useful purposes, but I have seen it cause slow downs with other things in the past. Also, you may want to make sure that you double-check the "experience" settings and that they correspond to your true remote link.
